RIPON, Wisconsin - In a dominant road performance, Beloit College pulled away for a convincing 65-44 victory over Ripon College at Weiske Gymnasium this afternoon. The win improved Beloit's record to 6-6 (2-2 in conference) while dropping Ripon to 4-8 (1-2).
Beloit took control early, building a 41-22 halftime lead behind efficient shooting (52.2% in the first half) and strong defensive pressure that held Ripon to just 26.5% from the field. The Bucs maintained their double-digit advantage throughout the second half.
Dae'Quan Davis (Chicago, Ill.) led a balanced Beloit attack with 16 points, including some crucial three-pointers.
Anthony Carter (Greenfield, Wis.)Â added 15 points on efficient 4-of-6 shooting while also contributing 4 assists.
Will Schubert (Fox Lake, Ill.) provided a spark off the bench with a career-high 12 points, connecting on 4-of-6 from beyond the arc.
The Bucs' defense was particularly impressive, forcing Ripon into a difficult shooting night (23.1% overall). Beloit also controlled the glass, outrebounding Ripon 50-38 behind strong efforts from Davis (9 rebounds) and
Jabari Scuefield (Hazel Crest, Ill.) (7 rebounds).
Beloit's largest lead reached 30 points in the second half. The victory marked an important bounce-back win for the Bucs, who demonstrated their potential with a complete team performance on both ends of the floor.
The win also continued Beloit's recent success against their regional rival - they controlled the game for over 31 minutes and never let Ripon build any sustained momentum.Â
The Buccaneers return to Flood Arena on Wednesday January 8th for their first of four straight home games. Tip off against the Illinois College Blue Boys is set for 7:30 pm.Â
