OBERLIN, OH – The Beloit College men's basketball team concluded their weekend at the Oberlin Tip-Off Classic with a loss to the hosts, Oberlin, falling 57-43. The game saw the Buccaneers fight to stay competitive despite an early deficit. The Buccaneers fall to 0-2 (0-0 MWC).
From the outset, the Yoe (1-1, 0-0 NCAC) established an early lead, building a 14-point advantage in the first half. The Bucs struggled to find its offensive rhythm, finishing the first half shooting 17.4% from the field. However, the Buccaneers demonstrated their grit with a scoring run of five points to end the half, preventing Oberlin from completely running away with the game.
The second half brought a renewed effort from Beloit. While Oberlin maintained control, the Buccaneers matched their first-half FG% of 28.6% and improved their three-point shooting significantly, hitting 5 of 15 attempts (33.3%). This offensive uptick contributed for the Bucs, showing their ability to string together baskets and apply some pressure.
Will Schubert (Fox Lake, Ill.) was a standout for Beloit, scoring 11 points on 4-11 shooting, including an impressive 3-7 from beyond the arc. He also contributed 1 rebound and 1 steal. His ability to hit three-pointers will be crucial for the Buccaneers' offense. Anthony Carter (Greenfield, Wis.) was another significant offensive presence, leading the Bucs with 14 points on 3-10 shooting (3-9 from three-point range) and a solid 5-6 from the free-throw line. He also dished out 2 assists and grabbed 5 rebounds, showcasing his all-around involvement. Thomas Glenn (Waukesha, Wis.) contributed 8 points, making 2 of his 8 three-point attempts and going 2-4 from the free-throw line. He also led the team in rebounds with 6 and added 1 assist, 1 block, and 2 steals. Semaj Roy (Chicago, Ill.) added 5 points, 6 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 steal, showing his presence on both ends of the floor.
The Buccaneers are back on the road on Wednesday, November 12th in Waukesha, Wisconsin to take on the Carroll university Pioneers. Tip off from the Van Male Field house is set for 7 pm.
