Softball Faces Tough Battles on Day Two in Florida

BARTOW, FL. - The Beloit College softball team faced a challenging day in Bartow, Florida, today, dropping both games despite spirited efforts. The Buccaneers (0-5, 0-0 MWC) showcased resilience against Univ. Northwestern and Gordon College in a tough Florida doubleheader. The Bucs faced a rain delay this morning that pushed the games back significantly.

Game 1 vs Univ. of Northwestern (MN)
The first game saw Beloit College fall to Univ. Northwestern (6-5, 0-0 UMAC) by a score of 7-4. While the Buccaneers tallied eight hits, they struggled to capitalize consistently with runners on base, leaving seven runners stranded. Beloit's offense was highlighted by Jessalyn Coppe's (Niles, IL) home run in the seventh, which gave hope, but the Northwestern lead was too much. Briana Arteaga (Covina, Calif.) also drove in a run, while Allison Olson (Sandwich, IL) contributed an RBI.

Game 2 vs Gordon College
The second game against Gordon College (1-3, 0-0 CNE) was more difficult, with Beloit falling by a final score of 18-6 in a five-inning affair. Beloit managed 11 hits, led by Arteaga, who was 3 for 3 on the day. Jocelyn Jordan (Beloit, Wis.) also contributed a pair of hits, with each player driving in a run. Siddalee Meyers (Orfordville, Wis.) also chipped in with a SAC RBI.

The Buccaneers have the day off tomorrow before facing the University of Mount Union and Hood College on Wednesday. Game times are set for 8 and 10:30 am CT from Winter Haven, Florida.
