WINTER HAVEN, FL - In a sun-soaked day for collegiate baseball, the Beloit College Buccaneers powered their way to an 8-3 victory over St. Scholastica. The win pushes the Buccaneers to a 5-3 record on the season, while St. Scholastica falls to 2-5.
The game remained tight in the early innings, with Beloit trailing 3-2 after St. Scholastica rallied in the top of the 3rd. However, the Buccaneers exploded in the 4th, capitalizing on a series of walks, a passed ball, and an error to score three runs and retake the lead.
A key moment arrived with Connor Vogel (Palmdale, Calif.), who delivered a clutch three-run double down the right field line, showcasing his offensive prowess and putting Beloit firmly in control.
The Buccaneers sealed the victory in the 7th inning with a resounding three-run home run from Brody Bremer (Mesa, Ariz.), extending their lead and silencing any comeback hopes from St. Scholastica. This blast provided a much-needed cushion and solidified Beloit's dominant performance.
On the mound, Beloit College pitching proved crucial to their success. After an initial stint from Will Lyng (Helena, MT), Erick Tiegs (Waukesha, Wis.) stepped in to earn the win, holding St. Scholastica to two runs over three innings. Micah Wilk (Martinez, Calif.) provided a scoreless inning of relief, and Maddon McArthur (Redondo Beach, Calif.) closed the game out, earning the save and stifling the St. Scholastica offense.
The Buccaneers now have two days off before facing Roger Williams on Friday for a doubleheader starting at 2:45 pm CT. The reserve team will play tomorrow afternoon at Lake Myrtle Park in Auburndale, Florida. First pitch is set for 11:30 am CT.
