Waukesha, WI – The Beloit College softball team (2-18, 0-0 MWC) fell to Carroll University (Wis.) (8-7, 0-0 CCIW) in a road doubleheader at Kilgour Field, with Carroll claiming an 8-0 (5 innings)victory and a narrow 1-0 win.
Game 1
The Buccaneers struggled to generate offense, managing just three hits throughout the game. Angela Donath (Wausau, Wis.) managed a single, also stealing a base. Rachel Overocker (Tinley Park, IL) and Hannah Beran (Calendonia, Ill.) had Beloit's other two hits. The Carroll pitcher, Pavelka, dominated on the mound, pitching a complete game shutout with six strikeouts.
On the pitching side for Beloit, Kaylee Witte (Poplar Grove, IL) took the loss, pitching 4.2 innings, surrendering seven runs (six earned) on seven hits, while walking two. Helena Harrison (Chapel Hill, N.C.) entered the game in relief, pitching 1.0 innings and allowing one earned run on two hits.
Carroll's offense was led by Leck, who homered and drove in three runs. Stanchina and Dusza each contributed two RBIs.
Game 2
Game two was a pitcher's duel, with both teams struggling to generate significant offense. The Pioneers managed to score the game's only run in the bottom of the first inning on a sacrifice fly by Dusza, allowing Stanchina to advance to third and Curtis to score.
Despite the loss, the Buccaneers showcased resilience and determination, particularly on the defensive end. Harrison delivered a solid performance, pitching 6.0 innings and allowing only one earned run on six hits while striking out one.
Offensively, Beloit College had a few promising moments. Donath tripled to right field in the first inning, and Siddalee Meyers (Orfordville, Wis.) singled to right field in the seventh. However, the Buccaneers were unable to capitalize on these opportunities, leaving a runner on base in both innings. Kaitlyn Nicholson (Roscoe, Ill) displayed aggressiveness on the basepaths with a stolen base.
Carroll University's pitcher, Wall , earned the win, pitching a complete game shutout and allowing only two hits while striking out five. The Pioneers' defense was also solid, committing no errors.
The Buccaneers head into Midwest Conference (MWC) play a week from today. They head to Mount Vernon, Iowa for a doubleheader against the Rams of Cornell College. First pitch for game one is set for 1 pm.
