AURORA Ill. - In a spirited contest held at the Spartan Athletic Park, the Beloit College Women's Lacrosse team (4-2, 1-1 NACC) faced a tough challenge against Aurora University (5-5, 2-0 NACC), ultimately succumbing to a 21-5 defeat. Despite the loss, the Buccaneers displayed resilience and determination throughout the match.
The Spartans came out strong, establishing an early lead with a dominant first period. Beloit struggled to find their offensive rhythm against Aurora's aggressive defense.
The Bucs offensive efforts, though limited against a dominant Aurora squad, were punctuated by moments of individual brilliance. Maya DeGeorge (Grand Junction, Colo.) provided a spark late in the first period, breaking Aurora's shutout with an unassisted goal at 2:07 to make the score 8-1. Johanna McNair (Fishers, Ind.) continued the scoring in the second period (7:33), converting a free position shot to bring the score to 11-2. In the fourth, DeGeorge scored on another free position shot. Later in the fourth (4:08), McNair netted her second goal for the team. Finally, with the game winding down, Cecilia Johnson (Mobile, Ala.) capitalized on a man-up opportunity, assisted by Menah Garcia, to bring the final score to 21-5.
Kim Pilon (Birch Run, Mich.) and Jasmin Bowers (Richmond, Texas) split the goal keeping responsibilities with Pilon making two saves and Bowers making one.
With her two goals this afternoon, McNair ties the Beloit College Women's Lacrosse Career Goals record with 122 goals. She will go for the record on Thursday, April 3rd against Lake Forest College.
