FOND DU LAC, Wis. – Johanna McNair (Fishers, Ind.) put on an offensive clinic, leading the Beloit College women's lacrosse team to a decisive 24-17 conference victory over Marian University (Wis.) on Saturday afternoon at Smith Field.
McNair was the driving force behind the Beloit attack, tallying an impressive 13 points with 6 goals and 7 assists. Her dominance extended to the draw circle, where she secured 16 draw controls, consistently giving Beloit possession. With the win, Beloit improves its record to 7-4 overall and 4-3 in conference play.
The Buccaneers (6-4, 3-3 NACC) offense fired on all cylinders, launching 45 shots throughout the contest, with 36 finding their way on goal. Supporting McNair's stellar effort was a balanced scoring attack. Willow Mashkuri (Middlesex, Vt.) netted 5 goals on 8 shots, Maya DeGeorge (Grand Junction, Colo.) added 4 goals, and Daisy Kleinhoffer (Minooka Community HS) contributed a hat-trick with 3 goals. Menah Garcia (New Hope, Minn.) and Cassidy Felix (Bellflower, Calif.) each scored twice, with Felix also adding an assist. Cecilia Johnson (Mobile, Ala.) chipped in with 2 goals early in the match.
The Buccaneers started strong, jumping out to a 7-4 lead after the first period, fueled by four early goals from McNair. After an evenly matched second period where both teams scored four goals, Beloit held an 11-8 advantage at halftime.
Beloit began to pull away in the third period, outscoring the Sabres 5-3 to take a 16-11 lead into the final frame. The fourth quarter saw the highest offensive output, with Beloit adding another 8 goals to Marian's 6, sealing the comfortable 24-17 victory. Beloit's dominance in draw controls (32-13) proved crucial in maintaining offensive pressure.
In goal for Beloit, Kim Pilon (Birch Run, Mich.) earned the win, making 5 saves against Marian's 22 shots on goal. The team also collected 28 ground balls, led by DeGeorge with 9.
