BELOIT, WI – The Beloit College women's lacrosse team showed early promise but ultimately fell to Edgewood College 17-5 in their home finale on Wednesday night. Despite a strong first quarter, the Buccaneers couldn't keep pace with the Eagles' offensive surge in the second half.
Beloit (7-6, 4-5 NACC) came out firing, taking control in the opening period. After Edgewood opened the scoring, Johanna McNair (Fishers, Ind.) answered for Beloit, assisted by Willow Mashkuri (Middlesex, Vt.), to tie the game 1-1 at the 5:13 mark. Less than two minutes later, Maya DeGeorge (Grand Junction, Colo.) scored unassisted, followed quickly by another goal from McNair, this time assisted by DeGeorge, giving the Buccaneers a 3-1 lead heading into the second quarter.
Edgewood (8-7, 7-2 NACC) responded strongly in the second period, scoring five goals. However, Beloit fought back to stay within striking distance. DeGeorge converted a free-position shot at 1:51 and added another unassisted goal just 12 seconds later, cutting the Edgewood lead to 6-5 heading into halftime.
The momentum shifted decisively after the break. Edgewood dominated the third quarter, rattling off seven unanswered goals to build a commanding 13-5 lead. The Buccaneers' offense, which had been effective early, struggled to find openings against the Eagles' defense and goaltending.
The Buccaneers were unable to generate any scoring in the final quarter, while Edgewood added four more goals to seal the 17-5 victory.
DeGeorge led the offensive effort for Beloit, tallying three goals and one assist. She was active all over the field, leading the team with 14 shots (9 on goal) and 6 draw controls. McNair contributed two goals. Willow Mashkuri recorded one assist.
Statistically, Beloit held an advantage in draw controls, winning 13 to Edgewood's 10. The Buccaneers were also perfect on their clear attempts, going 11-for-11. However, they struggled on free-position opportunities, converting only 1 of 7 chances, and committed 17 turnovers compared to Edgewood's 11. Beloit was outshot 34-23 overall.
In goal for Beloit, Kim Pilon (Birch Run, Mich.) made 6 saves while facing 23 shots on goal.
Despite the loss, the Buccaneers secured the No. 6 seed in the 2025 NACC Tournament. They will head to Vernoa, Wisconsin on Saturday for a quick rematch against the Eagles. Game time from Edgewood College Field – Reddan Park is set for noon.
