LAKE FOREST, Ill. – The Beloit College softball team encountered a challenging road trip on Saturday, dropping both games of a doubleheader against Lake Forest College at Mohr Field. Beloit fell 8-0 in the first game and 12-1 in the second contest.
The results move Beloit's overall record to 7-30 and their conference record to 5-8.
Game 1: Lake Forest 8, Beloit 0 (5 Innings)
The Beloit offense struggled to gain traction in the opener, managing just two hits against Lake Forest pitching. Shortstop Angela Donath (Wausau, Wis.) singled, and center fielder Lizzie Paschal (Holbrook, AZ) added a single and drew a walk. Hannah Beran (Calendonia, Ill.) and pinch hitter Avary Briggs (Albany, Wis.) also drew walks for Beloit, but the team couldn't push a run across, leaving six runners on base.
Lake Forest jumped out to an early lead, scoring three runs in the first inning and adding two more in the second off Beloit starter Samantha Friedrichsohn (Waukesha, WI). Kaylee Witte (Poplar Grove, IL) pitched three innings in relief, allowing two earned runs, before Helena Harrison (Chapel Hill, N.C.) recorded the final out.
Game 2: Lake Forest 12, Beloit 1 (5 Innings)
Beloit got on the scoreboard in the second game but couldn't keep pace with the Lake Forest offense. The team's lone run came in the top of the third inning. Beran led off with a walk and advanced to second on a single by Donath. Briggs followed with another single, and Beran came around to score on a throwing error by the Lake Forest catcher, making it an unearned run. Stella Lutes (Riverside, IL) also drew a walk in the inning to load the bases, but Beloit couldn't capitalize further.
Donath, Briggs, and Lutes recorded Beloit's three hits in the game. The team drew five walks overall, with Kaitlyn Nicholson (Roscoe, Ill), Allie Gustafson (Beloit, Wis.), Beran, Lutes, and Paschal reaching via base on balls. Beloit left seven runners stranded.
Briggs started on the mound for Beloit and took the loss. Witte entered in relief during a difficult second inning for Beloit, where Lake Forest plated eight runs. Harrison pitched the final 2.2 innings, allowing one earned run on three hits and striking out one. Beloit pitching surrendered 11 hits and four walks while hitting two batters.
The Buccaneers return to the Strong Complex Softball Field tomorrow to host the Ripon College Red Hawks. First pitch is set for 1 pm.
