Baseball Surges Past Prairie Fire

GALESBURG, Ill. – The Beloit College baseball team put together a dominant performance on the road, overwhelming Knox College 11-1 in a seven-inning contest on Wednesday, April 30th at Blodgett Field. The win improves Beloit's strong season record to 23-13 overall and 11-7 in Midwest Conference play.

Under misty skies, the Buccaneers wasted no time asserting control, exploding for four runs in the top of the first inning. After loading the bases with a walk, single, and another walk, Elijah Love (Madison, Wis.) ignited the scoring with a two-run double down the left-field line. Jordan Rosenberg (Leawood, KS) followed with an RBI single, and Blake Nelson (Monument, CO.) capped the rally with an RBI single of his own, giving Beloit an early 4-0 advantage.

Beloit added an unearned run in the second when leadoff hitter Seth Brankey (Salem, Wis.), who walked and stole second, scored on a throwing error.

The offensive pressure continued in the third. After a Rosenberg walk, Nelson tripled to center field to drive him in. Nolan Tomsyck (Muskego, Wis) promptly singled Nelson home, stole second, and eventually scored on a single by Connor Vogel (Palmdale, Calif.), pushing the lead to 8-0.

Knox scratched across their only run in the bottom of the third inning on three singles, with Nicholas Nitti driving in the run.

However, Beloit put the game firmly out of reach in the fifth inning, capitalizing on Knox miscues. Jack Alport (Arlington Heights, Ill.) delivered an RBI double, and two more runs came across following a throwing error by the Knox catcher, extending the lead to 11-1.

The Buccaneers' offense was efficient, scoring 11 runs on 9 hits and drawing 9 walks. Seth Brankey was a key catalyst from the leadoff spot, reaching base five times (1 hit, 4 walks) and scoring four runs while stealing two bases. Alport paced the team with three hits, including a double, and scored twice. Nelson (2 RBI, triple) and Love (2 RBI, double) provided significant run production.

On the mound, Beloit received a solid start from Eamon Burke (Helena, Mont.), who allowed one run over three innings. Erick Tiegs (Waukesha, Wis.) earned the win with a stellar relief appearance, tossing three perfect innings without allowing a hit or walk while striking out two. Caleb Lasher (Albuquerque, N.M.) closed out the game with a scoreless seventh inning.

The Buccaneers close out the 2025 regular season at home against Illinois College on Saturday and Sunday. Action from the Ballpark at Strong Stadium kicks off at noon on Saturday.
