Appleton, WI – Beloit College Baseball delivered a commanding performance this morning, shutting out top seeded Lawrence University 7-0 to advance to the 2025 MWC Tournament Championship series.
The story of the game for Beloit began on the mound. Starting pitcher Erick Tiegs (Waukesha, Wis.) was masterful, earning his fifth win of the season (5-0) with six scoreless innings. Tiegs scattered just three hits and two walks while striking out two Lawrence batters, effectively neutralizing their offense. Reliever Caleb Lasher (Albuquerque, N.M.) continued the dominance, pitching three perfect innings to close out the game, allowing no hits or walks and striking out one to earn his first save of the year. Combined, the Beloit hurlers faced 36 batters and allowed only three hits in a complete team shutout.
Beloit's offense provided ample support, methodically building their lead throughout the contest. The scoring opened in the second inning when Blake Nelson (Monument, CO.) singled to right field, driving in RJ Pouzar (Hartford, Wis.) who had walked earlier.
The Buccaneers significantly extended their lead in the fourth inning, plating three runs. Nolan Tomsyck (Muskego, Wis) singled to right center, bringing home Miles Souza (Carpinteria, Calif.). Riley Ponio (Morris, Ill.) followed with an RBI single, scoring Tomsyck. The inning was capped off by a sacrifice fly from Seth Brankey (Salem, Wis.), allowing Nelson to cross the plate, pushing the score to 4-0.
The offensive momentum continued into the fifth. Elijah Love (Madison, Wis.) launched a solo home run to right center, his first of two impactful extra-base hits. Later in the inning, Tomsyck collected his second RBI with a single through the left side, scoring Souza to make it 6-0.
Beloit added an insurance run in the eighth inning when Love struck again, this time with an RBI double to right center that scored Jack Alport (Arlington Heights, Ill.), who had walked and stolen second.
Beloit advances to the Championship series against Monmouth. The Buccaneers need to win two to secure the tournament title while Monmouth only needs one win. Game one will start at 2 pm.
