Men's Track and Field

Otis Qualifies for Nationals, Yearby and Martinez Smash School Records

BELOIT, Wis. - It was a week of monumental achievements for the Beloit College track and field program, as athletes delivered stellar performances at the Midwest Last Chance Qualifier, resulting in a National Championship qualifier and two new school records.

Nate Otis (Shoreview, Minn.) is heading to the big dance! His electrifying performance in the 400m Hurdles on Wednesday saw him cross the finish line in a blistering 52.21 seconds. This outstanding time not only secured him a spot at the NCAA DIII Outdoor Track and Field Championships but also seeds him an impressive 9th out of 22 elite competitors. Otis will look to make his mark on the national stage when he runs in the trials next Thursday at 6:10 p.m.

The speed didn't stop on the hurdles. At the same Midwest Last Chance Qualifier, Josh Yearby (West Park, FL) blazed down the track to etch his name into school history. Yearby broke the long-standing School Record in the 100m dash, clocking in at an incredible 10.693 seconds (officially rounded to 10.70). This new benchmark showcases his explosive power and dedication to the sprint events.

The field events also saw history rewritten. Just a day prior, Joshua Martinez Marte (Beloit, Wis.) delivered a truly monumental throw in the discus. With a mighty heave of 49.20 meters (a remarkable 161 feet, 5 inches), Martinez shattered the previous School Record, a mark that had stood untouched since 1975. This incredible performance placed him 38th in the entire country, putting him agonizingly close – less than five feet shy – of qualifying for the National Championships himself.
