Box Score RICHMOND, IN. - The Beloit College Men's soccer team earned a triumphant victory over Earlham College (Quakers) this evening. The win marks the first season opening win for the Bucs since the 2021 season.
The first half was a closely contested affair, with both teams demonstrating strong defensive play, resulting in a scoreless tie at halftime.
However, Beloit College found their rhythm in the second half, breaking the deadlock at 73:19 when
Rafael Cervantes Jr. (Dallas, TX) netted a goal, assisted by
Eziah Hernandez. The Buccaneers solidified their lead and ultimately secured the win at 80:31, as
Matteo Jijon scored an unassisted goal. Both goals were collegiate firsts.
The Buccaneers were efficient with 2 goals from 13 shots (7 on target) and 6 saves, despite having fewer corner kicks (4) compared to Earlham's 11. Earlham, though taking more shots (14 with 6 on target), was unable to convert their opportunities, and their goalkeeper, Ryland Wamsley, made 5 saves.
David Staats (Meridian, ID), earned the win in net for the Bucs, with a strong performance, making 6 saves.
This victory marks a strong start for the Buccaneers, placing them at 1-0-0 for the season, while the Quakers begin their season with an 0-1-0 record.
The Buccaneers return to action tomorrow afternoon against the Anderson University Ravens. Kick off from Fridley Field is set for 3 pm ET / 2 pm CT.
