Kalamazoo, MI – Beloit College's women's soccer team faced a tough start to their 2025 season, falling 4-0 to the Kalamazoo Hornets at MacKenzie Field. Despite a valiant effort from the Buccaneers, Kalamazoo's offensive power proved to be the deciding factor in the match.
The Hornets wasted no time establishing their dominance, scoring the first goal of the season just 5 minutes and 12 seconds into the game. Kalamazoo continued to press, adding two more goals in the first half, leaving Beloit trailing 3-0 at halftime.
Beloit's defense, led by goalkeeper Kaya Williams (Cincinnati, OH), faced a barrage of shots throughout the match. Williams made several crucial saves in the first half, ultimately tallying 5 saves, while Sophia Dietz (Schaumburg, IL), who came in for the second half, also made 6 saves, demonstrating the Buccaneers' resilience under pressure. The Hornets registered 18 shots in the first half, 8 of which were on target, compared to Beloit's 0 shots.
The second half saw Kalamazoo extend their lead with a goal at 56:51, bringing the score to 4-0. Beloit, however, showed increased offensive presence in the second half, managing 5 shots, with players like Grace Christos (Valporariso, IN) and Sarah Connors (Paso Robles, CA) attempting to break through the Hornets' defense. Sara Holguin (Beloit, WI) also had a shot on goal late in the game, forcing a save from Kalamazoo's goalkeeper.
Despite the loss, the Buccaneers' second-half performance, particularly their ability to generate more shots and Dietz's solid goalkeeping, offers a glimpse of their potential. Beloit will look to regroup and build on these efforts as they continue their season.
The Buccaneers are back in action on Wednesday at Marian University in Fond du Lac. Kick off is set for 4 pm from Smith Field.
