MONMOUTH, IL – The Beloit College men's soccer team showcased a formidable performance this afternoon as they decisively defeated the Monmouth College Fighting Scots (3-3-2, 0-1-0 MWC) with a final score of 5-1 at Peacock Memorial Athletic Park. The Buccaneers, now boasting a 4-4-2 season record (1-0-0 in conference play), left no doubt about their offensive prowess and solid defense.
From the whistle, Beloit established control, asserting their dominance early in the first half. The Buccaneers netted three goals before halftime, setting a commanding tone for the match. Benjamin Eilbes (Madison, Wis.) opened the scoring for Beloit at the 16:27 mark, securing his first goal of the season. Not long after, Matteo Jijon (Wilmette, IL) found the back of the net at 29:02, assisted by Rafael Cervantes Jr. (Dallas, TX), further extending Beloit's lead. Eziah Hernandez (New Mexico) then added another goal at 38:01, solidifying Beloit's strong first-half showing.
The second half saw continued pressure from Beloit. Hernandez scored his second goal of the match at 53:57, assisted by Eilbes, pushing the score to 4-0. While Monmouth managed to get on the scoreboard at 56:43, Beloit quickly responded. A crucial own goal at 61:24 further extended Beloit's lead, bringing the final tally to 5-1.
David Staats spent all 90 minutes in goal for the Bucs, recording three saves and giving up just one goal.
The Buccaneers have a quick turn around as they return to Strong Complex Soccer Field tomorrow to host UW-Eau Claire at 1 pm.
