BELOIT, Wis. - In a hard-fought match at Strong Soccer Field this afternoon, the Beloit Buccaneers women's soccer team and Concordia Chicago battled to a 1-1 draw. The Buccaneers, now with a 0-2-1 record, showcased a resilient defense and an early offensive spark against Concordia Chicago (0-4-1).
The game started with an early lead for Beloit, as Sarah Connors (Paso Robles, CA) scored on a free kick in the 7th minute, marking the first of her collegiate goal and first of the season.
The Buccaneers' defense was tested throughout the match, with goalkeeper Kaya Williams (Cincinnati, OH) making 4 saves in the first half and Sophia Dietz (Schaumburg, IL) adding 7 saves in the second half. Beloit's defenders, including Zyana Turcios (Elmwood Park, Ill.), Meah Mora (Caldwell, ID), and Fianne Makela (Duluth, MN), played crucial roles in fending off the Cougars' 23 total shots.
Beloit had 10 shots with 7 on target. Connors led the Buccaneers with 6 shots, 4 of which were on target, and her early goal gave Beloit an initial advantage. Other notable offensive efforts came from Meara Plum (Wentzville, MO) and Chrissy Niesel (Herene, Germany), who each contributed a shot on goal.
The second half saw a more aggressive Concordia Chicago offense, eventually leading to Angelina Barreno's unassisted goal in the 61st minute, tying the game.
The Buccaneers fought hard until the end, with Grace Christos (Valporariso, IN) taking a shot in the 82nd minute that was saved. Despite their efforts, Beloit was unable to regain the lead.
