BELOIT, WI — This afternoon at Flood Arena, the Beloit College Buccaneers (5-9, 0-5 MWC) faced off against a formidable Monmouth College squad. While the final score of 87-55 favored the Fighting Scots (11-4, 6-0 MWC), the Buccaneers showcased significant flashes of momentum and individual excellence.
Despite the challenging outcome, several Beloit players delivered standout performances. Leading the way was Anthony Carter (Greenfield, Wis.), who paced the Buccaneers with a team-high 13 points. Carter was a force of consistency, particularly from the charity stripe where he went a perfect 3-for-3, and his 29 minutes of action were the most on the floor for Beloit.
Thomas Glenn (Waukesha, Wis.) proved to be the team's most efficient offensive weapon. Glenn was perfect from the field, shooting 3-for-3, including two critical shots from beyond the arc. He also tied for the team lead in rebounds with five, proving his versatility on both ends of the court. Joining them in double figures was Dae'Quan Davis (Chicago, Ill.), who provided a massive spark off the bench. Davis tallied 10 points on 5-of-9 shooting and hauled in five rebounds, asserting himself as a physical presence in the paint.
Beloit opened the game with high energy, briefly capturing the lead early in the first half. At the 17:03 mark, Glenn drained a clutch three-pointer to put the Buccaneers up 5-4, marking a high-energy start for the home team.
The Buccaneers also showed resilience midway through the first half. Trailing by five, Carter drew a foul and sank three consecutive free throws at the 14:12 mark, narrowing the gap to just 10-8 and forcing Monmouth to work for every possession.
In the second half, Beloit found another gear around the 10-minute mark. Sparked by an aggressive interior defense and a jump shot by Davis, the Buccaneers orchestrated a 6-0 scoring run. This stretch highlighted Beloit's ability to string together defensive stops and transition them into quick offensive production, cutting into the deficit and temporarily stalling Monmouth's momentum.
The Buccaneers' bench was a focal point of their strategy, out-producing Monmouth's reserves at various points and finishing with a strong 25 bench points. Beloit also found success inside, recording 26 points in the paint. While the Scots' transition game proved difficult to contain (28 points off turnovers), the Buccaneers' 42% field goal shooting in the second half showed an improved offensive rhythm as the game progressed.
The Buccaneers hit the road for their next contest. They head to Lake Forest on Tuesday, January 13th for a battle with the Foresters. Tip off from the Lake Forest Sports & Recreation Center is set for 5:30 pm.
