BELOIT, WI – In a high-energy matchup at Flood Arena this evening, the Beloit College Buccaneers displayed flashes of brilliance and a relentless competitive spirit, ultimately falling to Lawrence University 77-58. While the final score favored the visitors, the Buccaneers (5-19, 0-15 MWC) provided the home crowd with several momentum-swinging highlights and standout individual performances.
The Buccaneers wasted no time making their presence felt. Beloit claimed an early 3-0 lead just minutes into the contest when Dae'Quan Davis (Chicago, Ill.) found his rhythm from beyond the arc. The Bucs' defensive intensity forced the Vikings (13-11,6-9 MWC) into early turnovers, allowing Anthony Carter (Greenfield, Wis.) to capitalize with a smooth jump shot, extending an early lead to 5-2.
Beloit's strategy was clear: utilize their perimeter speed. The Buccaneers outperformed Lawrence from three-point range, knocking down 11 triples compared to Lawrence's three. This outside shooting kept the Bucs within striking distance for much of the first half, highlighted by a clutch 3-pointer from Ebrahim JarJue (Madison, Wis.) that tied the game at 8-8 and brought the Flood Arena fans to their feet.
Leading the way for the Bucs was Dae'Quan Davis (Chicago, Ill.), who finished the night with a team-high 13 points. Davis was a focal point of the offense, adding four rebounds and two assists to his stat line.
In the paint and on the glass, Jarjue was a force of energy. Jarjue contributed 7 points and 5 rebounds, often diving for loose balls and providing the physical presence Beloit needed against a tall Lawrence frontcourt. Meanwhile, junior leader Carter orchestrated the floor, chipping in 7 points and a team-high 9 assists (according to plus/minus tracking), proving to be the engine of the Beloit transition game.
Lathan Lewis (Rockford, Ill.) also deserves mention for his efficiency; he was one of the few players on the court to finish with a positive plus/minus (+1), contributing 5 points and 4 rebounds in 26 minutes of disciplined play.
The most significant momentum shift for the Buccaneers occurred midway through the second half. Facing a double-digit deficit, Beloit mounted a spirited 9-0 scoring run fueled by aggressive bench play. The Bucs' reserves were a major bright spot, outscoring the Lawrence bench 23-22 over the course of the game.
During this late-game push, Beloit cut into the lead with fast-break points and second-chance opportunities, proving that no matter the score, the "Beloit Grit" remained intact. The Buccaneers actually outpaced Lawrence in fast-break points (5-4), showcasing their ability to run the floor and catch the Vikings' defense off-balance.
The Buccaneers will close out the 2025-26 season on Saturday at Ripon. Tip off from Weiske Gymnasium is set for 1 pm.
