BELOIT, Wis. – In a physical matchup at Strong Stadium this evening, the Beloit College men's lacrosse team showcased a resilient spirit, battling through four quarters against Lawrence University. While the Vikings (5-4, 2-2 NACC) ultimately secured an 11-3 victory, the Buccaneers (3-4, 0-3 NACC) demonstrated significant offensive pressure and defensive grit, particularly in the second half.
The contest opened with Lawrence finding an early rhythm, jumping out to a 5-0 lead in the first period. However, the Buccaneers refused to go quiet, increasingly finding their footing as the game progressed. Beloit's defensive unit, anchored by goalkeeper Christian Moore (Dubuque, Iowa), faced a heavy barrage of 46 shots but managed to keep the game within reach for much of the middle periods.
Beloit's offense came alive in the third period, out-shooting Lawrence 10-11 in that frame alone. The Buccaneers broke through at the 12:42 mark of the third quarter when Rilan Larmore (Olympia, Wash.) found the back of the net off a crisp assist from Ryder Story (Salem, Ore.), cutting into the Lawrence lead and igniting the home crowd.
The Buccaneers continued to capitalize on opportunities later in the third. During a man-up advantage at the 1:59 mark, John Imbriale (Brooklyn, NY) fired a successful shot past the Lawrence keeper, assisted by Cristian Lewis (Seattle, WA).
In the final period, Sky Solig (Warroad, MN) provided one last highlight for the Buccaneers. At 8:05 remaining in the game, Solig took charge with a determined unassisted drive to score Beloit's third goal of the evening.
Despite the final score, several Buccaneers posted impressive individual statistics. Moore was a wall in the cage, racking up 13 saves over 60 minutes of play to stymie several Lawrence fast-break opportunities. Solig led the team in offensive aggression with 6 shots, 1 goal, and 1 ground ball. Mac Reed (Waunakee, WI) was a force on the turf, leading the team with 4 ground balls. Lewis contributed across the board with an assist and 3 ground balls. Larmore recorded a goal and a caused turnover, showing his impact on both ends of the field.
The Buccaneers are back in action on Saturday when they host the Aurora University Spartans. Game time is set for 12 pm from Strong Stadium.
