Men's Lacrosse Falls Short Against Eagles Despite Comeback Effort

BELOIT, Wis. – In a display of late-game grit and defensive tenacity, the Beloit College men's lacrosse team battled until the final whistle this evening at Strong Stadium. Despite a spirited second-half comeback and outshooting their opponents, the Buccaneers (5-10, 2-9 NACC) ultimately fell to Edgewood University with a final score of 8-5.

The contest began with the Eagles (4-11, 4-7 NACC) jumping out to a quick 5-0 lead in the first period. However, the Beloit defense, anchored by a stellar performance in the cage, settled in to shut down the Edgewood attack for nearly the entire second and third periods.

Beloit's offense found its spark midway through the second period. Cole Conway (Nolensville, Tenn.) put the Buccaneers on the board at the 5:35 mark, firing home a goal off a crisp assist from Samuel Van Der Kolk (Grand Haven, Mich.). The momentum continued to shift just before halftime when Sky Solig (Warroad, MN) found the back of the net following a setup by Liam Walker (Elmhurst, Ill.), cutting the deficit to 5-2 at the break.

The third period belonged to the Buccaneers, who outshot Edgewood 12-7 in the frame. John Imbriale (Brooklyn, NY) notched a goal at the 4:11 mark, again assisted by the playmaker Walker. Shortly after, George Haigley (Cockeysville, MD) capitalized on an unassisted opportunity to bring Beloit within two goals, making the score 6-4 and igniting the home crowd at Strong Stadium.

In the fourth period, Beloit continued to pressure the Edgewood defense Walker, who led the team with three total points on the night, showcased his versatility by scoring a man-up goal at the 6:02 mark to keep the Buccaneers within striking distance.

A wall in the net, Christian Moore (Dubuque, Iowa) recorded 13 saves on the night, keeping the Buccaneers competitive throughout the contest. Cristian Lewis (Seattle, WA) led the ground ball effort for Beloit with a team-high 7 ground balls, helping the Buccaneers win the overall ground ball battle 31-26.

On defense, Keegan Heikila (West Salem, Ore.) and Isaac Guttormson (West Bend, Wis.) each tallied 4 ground balls and combined for 4 caused turnovers, disrupting the Edgewood transition game.

Beloit finished the game leading in several key statistical categories, outshooting Edgewood 36-34 and picking up more ground balls (31-26). The Buccaneers also showed great discipline in the clearing game, successfully converting 21 of 29 attempts.

This game marked the end of the 2026 season for the Buccaneers.
