Rosenberg and Alport Power Baseball to Dominant Victory Over Edgewood

VERONA, Wis. – Behind a relentless offensive attack and a clinical performance from the bullpen, Beloit College (17-16) cruised to an 11-2 victory over Edgewood University this afternoon at Stampfl Field. The Buccaneers hammered out 12 hits, including three home runs, to overwhelm the Eagles and move above the .500 mark on the season.

The story of the game was Jordan Rosenberg (Leawood, KS), who put on a masterclass at the plate. Rosenberg finished the day 3-for-4 with three runs scored and a staggering five RBIs. He accounted for two of the team's three home runs, providing the muscle that kept Edgewood out of reach for the duration of the contest.

Rosenberg wasn't alone in the hit parade. Jack Alport (Arlington Heights, Ill.) was a dual-threat for the Buccaneers, going 2-for-5 with a two-run home run while also coming in to pitch a perfect ninth inning to seal the victory. Shortstop Nolan Tomsyck (Muskego, Wis) also turned in a stellar 3-for-5 performance, including a double and an RBI.

Beloit wasted no time asserting their dominance, putting up a four-spot in the top of the first inning. Alport set the table with a leadoff single and a stolen base, eventually scoring on a Parker Krcmar (Waupaca, Wis.) RBI single to shortstop. Two batters later, Rosenberg delivered his first highlight of the day, a towering three-run blast to left field that gave Beloit a quick 4-0 lead.

After Edgewood clawed back two runs in the bottom of the first, Alport immediately answered in the top of the second. Following a Drew Hanson (Edgerton, Wis.) single, Alport launched a two-run homer to left, extending the lead to 6-2.

The Buccaneers' pitching staff settled in after the first, providing scoreless frames that allowed the offense to pull away. In the fifth inning, Rosenberg struck again, hitting his second home run of the day—a two-run shot to left-center that scored Tomsyck and pushed the lead to 8-2.

Beloit put the finishing touches on the blowout in the sixth inning. Tomsyck drove in Krcmar with an RBI single to right-center, followed by a clutch, two-run ground-rule double from Brody Bremer (Mesa, Ariz.) that scored both Rosenberg and Nelson, capping the scoring at 11-2.

On the mound, Sutton Bassett (Carlsbad, Calif) earned the win (2-1), tossing two scoreless innings of relief and allowing only one hit. The Beloit bullpen was exceptional throughout the afternoon; Brennen Jones (Chicago, Ill.)Jude Ackeret (Cedar Grove, Wis,)Alex Klun (Sun Prairie, Wis.), and Tyler Weigand (Chicago, Ill.) combined to surrender zero runs over the final six innings.

Alport moved from center field to the mound in the ninth, striking out the side to punctuate a comprehensive team victory.

The Buccaneers return to the Ballpark at Strong Stadium on Saturday to host MWC-foe Lawrence University. First pitch is set for 12 pm.
