BELOIT, WI – The Beloit College Buccaneers put on a clinic of disciplined hitting and lockdown pitching this afternoon, sweeping a doubleheader against Cornell College. The Buccaneers took the first contest 8-1 before completing the sweep with a 6-3 victory in the nightcap, moving their season record to 22-16 (14-6 MWC).
Game 1: Beloit 8, Cornell 1
The opener proved to be a lopsided affair, as Beloit dismantled the Rams 8-1. The story of the game was the dual threat of
Ben Schweit's (Simi Valley, CA.) pitching and
Jack Alport's (Arlington Heights, Ill.) relentless base-running.
Schweit (5-4) was nearly untouchable, racking up seven strikeouts over six innings of work and allowing only two hits. He was backed by a relief masterclass from Caleb Lasher (Albuquerque, N.M.), who didn't allow a single hit over the final three innings to seal the win.
Offensively, Alport was the catalyst. Despite only recording one official hit, Alport reached base four times and scored four of the team's eight runs, terrorizing Cornell on the basepaths with a stolen base and capitalizing on every mistake.
The Buccaneers got on the board in the first when Aiden Wood (Chandler, Ariz.) grounded out to shortstop, scoring Alport for the game's first run. Later in the 3rd, Seth Brankey (Salem, Wis.) singled through the left side to drive in Alport. Later in the inning, Wood singled to left; a Cornell error allowed Brankey to hustle home. The Buccaneers broke the game open with a four-run explosion in the sixth. Nolan Tomsyck (Muskego, Wis) doubled to left-center to score Jackson O'Brien (Severna Park, MD), followed by RBI singles from Alport and Brankey. Blake Nelson (Monument, CO.) capped the inning with an RBI walk. In the eighth, Brankey collected his third RBI of the game with a single to right-center, once again scoring Alport.
Game 2: Beloit 6, Cornell 3
In the final game of 2026 at the Ballpark at Strong Stadium, Beloit wasted no time establishing dominance. The Buccaneers' offense was paced by a stellar performance from
Jordan Rosenberg (Leawood, KS), who went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two huge RBIs.
The definitive blow came in the bottom of the second inning. After Nelson and Wood reached base, Rosenberg crushed a double to left-center, driving in both runners. Moments later, Drew Hanson (Edgerton, Wis.) kept the momentum alive with an RBI single up the middle to give Beloit an early 3-0 lead.
Cornell attempted a comeback, but Beloit's situational hitting in the sixth inning put the game out of reach. Jacopo Tamburini (Bologna, Italy) delivered a clutch sacrifice fly to center field to score Rosenberg, followed by a bases-loaded walk from Brankey that forced in another run. Alport put the finishing touches on the victory with an RBI double in the eighth.
On the mound, Will Lyng (Helena, MT) earned the win (3-1), tossing six solid innings and allowing just two earned runs while striking out three.
With these two victories, the Buccaneers have clinched a spot in the Midwest Conference Tournament next weekend. Grinnell College will host and more information on game times will be released on Monday.
