APPLETON, WI – The Beloit College Buccaneers showcased their resilience and offensive firepower this afternoon, splitting a Midwest Conference doubleheader against Lawrence University at Whiting Field. After a narrow heartbreaker in the opening contest, the Buccaneers (5-35, 3-13 MWC) stormed back with a season-defining 9-1 victory in the nightcap.
Game One: Lawrence 3, Beloit 2
The opener was a defensive duel that transformed into a late-inning thriller. Buccaneers starter Avary Briggs (Albany, Wis.) kept Beloit in the game with a gritty performance in the circle, tossing six innings and allowing only two earned runs.
Beloit's offense came alive in the top of the 6th inning. Trailing 1-0, G Calderon (Winthrop Harbor, IL) reached on an error followed by a walk to Allie Gustafson (Beloit, Wis.). Briggs then helped her own cause, lining an RBI single to right-center to tie the game. Moments later, Rachel Overocker (Tinley Park, IL) delivered in the clutch with a pinch-hit RBI single to right, driving in Qitarra Olson (Onalaska, WI) to give the Buccaneers a 2-1 lead.
Despite the late-inning heroics, Lawrence managed to reclaim the lead in the bottom of the 6th, handing Beloit a tough 3-2 loss.
Game Two: Beloit 9, Lawrence 1
The Buccaneers wasted no time asserting dominance in the second game, unleashing a 13-hit barrage to overwhelm the Vikings.
Kaylee Witte (Poplar Grove, IL) put on a masterclass at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBIs. The scoring began in the 3rd inning when Gustafson laced an RBI single to bring home Joey Meyers (Orfordville, Wis.). Overocker followed with a sacrifice fly to push the lead to 2-0.
Beloit broke the game open in the 4th inning. After Jessalyn Coppe (Niles, IL) walked and Jaimie Weidner (Lakemoor, IL) reached, Witte hammered a two-run single down the left-field line. Calderon immediately followed with an RBI double to right, extending the lead to 5-0.
The Buccaneers put the finishing touches on the victory with a four-run 6th inning, featuring an RBI double by Witte, an RBI single from Sydney Weisman (Brookfield, Wis.) and finally an RBI single by Lylah Murrah (North Pole, AK) that capped the scoring at 9-1.
On the mound, the duo of Samantha Friedrichsohn (Waukesha, WI) and Zoey Buchholtz (Lake Mills, WI) was untouchable. Friedrichsohn earned the win with three scoreless innings, allowing just two hits. Buchholtz entered in relief to earn the three-inning save, surrendering only one run and ensuring the Vikings never mounted a comeback.
The win concludes the Buccaneers 2026 season.
