Bruce Turpin joins the Buccaneers with an extensive background in hockey coaching, emphasizing comprehensive player development and strategic gameplay. His philosophy centers on attacking the four pillars of the game – technical, tactical, physical, and mental – to achieve complete player growth and team success.
Turpin's impressive resume includes a significant tenure as the Girls Director and Varsity Head Coach for Chicago Central (Romans) since 2022, and he has been the Director of Coaching and Player Development for Elmhurst Chiefs since 2013. He also served as the Hockey Director and Varsity Head Coach for York High School, where he was recognized as the Billy Reay HS Coach of the Year in 2019. His coaching career also spans successful stints with Chicago Blues (winning NIHL Silver Wolves Cup Champions and State AA Champions), Chicago Young Americans, Loyola Academy, Northbrook Bluehawks, and Springfield Jr. Pics, where he led the Midget AAA team to NEMHL Champions.
Academically, Turpin holds a BS in Biological Engineering from the University of Guelph and an MS in Exercise Science from the University of Massachusetts – Amherst, specializing in biomechanics. He is also a USA Hockey Level 5 Coaching Certification holder and completed the Hockey Director Program (NARCE) in 2008.
His coaching style is characterized by an emphasis on puck control, support, and movement across all three zones, incorporating small area games to enhance skill development under pressure. Turpin firmly believes that "skill = technique + pressure," and his methods are designed to foster creative, competitive, and highly skilled players.
"I'm excited to join Coach Millins in building Beloit College's inaugural women's hockey program,"Â stated Turpin. "We have an outstanding group of student-athletes embracing the culture and work ethic Coach Millins has established during these first weeks of practice. I am ready to help the team refine their technical skills and tactical IQ, push each player to reach their potential and build something truly special at Beloit College."
