Bucs Fall to Ripon, Nicolas Breaks Tackles Record

The Beloit College football team was unable to come back from a first half deficit, despite a solid second half, falling to Ripon College 49-14 on the road Saturday.

Redhawks' quarterback Cormac Madigan gave Ripon a 35-0 at the half on five rushing touchdowns in the first 30 minutes of play.

The Buccaneers posted a solid second half, with the defense sparking the offense for the first score after intermission.

After a punt from Beloit in their first possession, the Buccaneer defense came up big in the Redhawks' first possession of the second half. Joshua Milligan picked off Madigan at Ripon's 42 yard line, returned the interception to the 33 and then a personal foul by the Redhawks tacked on another 15 yards.

Opening the drive on the Ripon 18, two incomplete passes and a three yard gain forced a fourth and seven. Marcos Camacho was up to the task dropping back and finding Tyler Korous for the touchdown strike.

Beloit's defense forced another turnover on the next possession as Trey Bishop forced a fumble that was recovered by Broakeen Sheffield at the Bucs' 10-yard line but the turnover did not lead to points.

Ripon added to their total with two more scores pushing the advantage to 49-7 nearing the end of the third quarter.

The Bucs got off just one play before the final period got underway. Facing a third and ten, Camacho went back to the air finding Juan Reyes for a 15-yard gain and the Buc first down at the Ripon 48.

A few plays later and another third and ten was converted, Camacho using his legs this time for a 12-yard gain. Joey Werner took two carries for 16 yards and into the redzone at the Ripon 20. A completion to Kentreyal Carraway for eight yards was sandwiched between two incompletions forcing a fourth and two.

Camacho kept the drive alive with a five-yard strike to Korous giving the Bucs first down and goal at the seven.

Werner was tapped on the first two downs carrying for four yards before Camacho was tackled for a loss of one on third down.

The Bucs converted on fourth down for the second time in the drive as Camacho continued to get more Beloit receivers involved with a four yard touchdown pass to Travis Price bringing the score to 49-14.

Sophomore defensive back Patrick Nicolas broke the school record for tackles in a game with 27 including 15 solo and 12 assisted in the contest to lead the Buccaneer defense.

Camacho completed 9 of 24 passes for 74 yards and two touchdowns. Reyes and Korous combined for eight catches and 78 yards while Werner tallied 113 yards on 33 carries.

Beloit returns to Strong Stadium to host the University of Chicago Saturday, October 20 at 1 p.m.
