Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Bucs Downed on Early PKs

The Beloit College men's soccer team fell to Knox College 2-0 after two early penalty kicks Saturday afternoon in Beloit.

The first foul in the box resulting in a penalty kick took place just 5:36 into the game. The Prairie Fire's Alessandro Benelli drove the ball into the lower left corner of the goal for the 1-0 advantage.

Less than two minutes later, just seconds into the eighth minute, a controversial call led to another Knox penalty kick. Benelli once again took the kick and scored for the 2-0 Knox advantage.

The Buccaneers had a fantastic opportunity in the second half as a free kick was served in from near midfield. Freddy Widmer flicked the ball on for another head from Jose Gutierrez beating the keeper inside the near post. The Bucs' celebration was cut short as the official flagged offsides and the goal was waved off.

Beloit continued to press with a few more chances in the second half but were unable to find the back of the net.

Knox remains unbeaten in Midwest Conference play at 5-0. The Bucs fall to 1-4 in league play.

Beloit returns to the pitch Sunday morning at 11 a.m. hosting Illinois College for another conference match.
