Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Bucs, Sabres Battle Through Double OT

The Beloit College men's soccer team battled with Marian University (WI) through regulation and two overtime periods but neither team was able to break the stalemate ending with a 0-0 tie.

Each squad tallied 17 shots in the contest with Beloit recording the advantage with shots on goal, 11-6. Marian countered with the advantage on corner kicks 7-2.

The Buccaneers had the Sabre keeper working early on with two shots on goal in the first 15 minutes, the first from Jackson Rogers and the second by Deji Agunbiade. Agunbiade teamed with Jose Gutierrez on back-to-back scoring chances less than a minute apart in the 33rd minute but both opportunities were thwarted by the Marian keeper.

The Bucs continued to press forward in the second period of play gaining offensive momentum but still unable to beat the MU goal tender.

Freddy Widmer notched the team's only shot on goal in the overtime periods. As the sun continued to set and the final seconds ticked off the clock, the Buc defense faced one last major test. A foul just outside the top left corner of the box allowed a free kick for Marian with just 20 seconds remaining. That shot sailed over the wall of Buccaneers and into the hands of Beloit's keeper Alex Lyon sealing the 0-0 tie.

Agunbiade, Widmer and Andrew Marchesi combined for 10 shots in the contest with Griffin Engel coming in as a sub and tallying two more.

The Bucs' solid defense was led by Lyon's six saves in the contest.

Beloit is back in action tomorrow at Maranatha Baptist in Watertown, Wisconsin. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:30.
