Bucs Topped by Kohawks

The Beloit College men's basketball team fell to Coe College 86-63 Wednesday evening in Flood Arena.

The Kohawks had a big second half shooting 60-percent from the floor compared to Beloit's 36-percent to outscore the Buccaneers 45-28 in the period.

The Bucs hit their first two shots of the game to take an early 4-0 lead but Coe responded with a 15-4 run to make it 15-8 just over five minutes into the contest. Beloit whittled away at the lead and regained the advantage by the 10:20 mark after an Andrew Walters layup make it 18-17.

Once again the Kohawks had an answer. A 9-2 spurt pushed the lead back to six, 26-20 but the Bucs countered with an 8-2 burst to knot the game 28-28 with 5:38 on the clock. Coe scored 13 of the last 18 points of the period to take a 41-35 lead into the intermission.

A Kohawk layin just over two minutes into the second half pushed the margin into double figures where it would remain the rest of the game.

The Bucs shot 39-percent (27-69) from the field and 26-percent (8-31) from three-point range in the game while Coe knocked down 55-percent (32-58) from the floor and 42-percent (11-26) from long range. The Kohawks also got to the line more often making 11 of their 16 opportunities from the charity stripe while the Bucs were just one of two in the game.

Mylan Walters led Beloit with 14 points bolstered by 3-7 from distance. Tristan Shoup  added 12 points on 6-9 from the field and hauled in seven rebounds. Andrew Walters notched a game-high nine rebounds to go with 11 points in the game.

Beloit will have until the new year to prepare for the rest of Midwest Conference play. The Bucs open with two home games against league teams hosting Lake Forest College on the 2nd followed by a January 5th matchup with Illinois College.
