Even the rain couldn't dampen the Buccaneer spirit as the Beloit College women's soccer team hung on to a 1-0 win at Lake Forest College Wednesday evening. The win is the first for the Bucs against the Midwest Conference foe since 1992.
It didn't take long for the Bucs to find the back of the net as Candace Cunningham found space behind the Forester defense and notched her third goal of the season off an assist from Genesis Dade to give Beloit the 1-0 lead at 10:18.
The Beloit defense held on for the next nearly 80 minutes of actual game time to tally the 1-0 victory. The Buccaneer defense turned away six shots on goal in the first half.
Less than two minutes into the second half, the teams were forced into the lockerrooms for a weather delay. About an hour later, both squads returned to the field, and as the sun returned in the sky, the second half resumed play.
Beloit's defense continued to hold strong thwarting 11 shots from Lake Forest in the second half including six on goal that were saved by Buccaneer goalie Connor Keegan-Lloyd.
The Foresters held a 17-11 advantage in shots in the game. The Bucs recorded a 6-3 bump in corner kicks and Keegan-Lloyd tallied 12 saves in net for Beloit.
Beloit is 2-4 overall and 1-0 in league play. The Foresters fall to 4-5 on the season and 0-1 in the MWC.
Up Next: The Bucs will host Grinnell College Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the Strong Complex during Beloit's annual Homecoming weekend.
