Bucs Fall to Macalester, St. Olaf to Wrap up ACM

The Beloit College volleyball team fell in their final two matches of the ACM Tournament hosted by Lawrence University Appleton, Wisconsin Saturday.

The Bucs were edged by Macalester 3-1 (25-27, 25-23, 26-24, 25-17) in their opener Saturday. Defense bolstered Beloit in the exciting match. Three Buccaneers tallied double digit digs led by Payton Carlock and Shelby Strehlow with 14 each. Eva Laun-Smith added ten. At the net, Laun-Smith added a solo and three block assists. Allison Faber thwarted five Macalester opportunities with a solo and four block assists.

Offensively, Molly Muller hit .233 to lead Beloit with 12 kills in 30 attempts and just five attack errors. Paige Wimbrow registered 23 assists in the match.

The Bucs were unable to stifle St. Olaf's high-powered offense in a 3-0 (25-11, 25-12, 25-19) loss in their second match of the day. St. Olaf hit. 333 with 44 kills in the contest.

Beloit struggled offensively but posted an advantage defensively at the net with seven blocks compared to St. Olaf's four. Faber had four of those blocks including three solo blocks to lead the Bucs at the net. Strehlow recorded ten digs in the match and Wimbrow added 12 assists.

Following the conclusion of tournament play, Laun-Smith was selected to the ACM All-Tournament team along with one player from each of the competing teams. 

Beloit will compete in their final tournament of the fall Friday and Saturday, September 14-15 at the Macalester Tournament in St. Paul, Minnesota.
