Netters Drop Two in Minnesota

The Beloit College volleyball team lost a pair of matches to open the Macalester Tournament in St. Paul, Minnesota Friday evening. It was the second weekend in a row facing the two opponents Beloit saw Friday.

Carleton College 3, Beloit 1 (25-17, 15-25, 25-20, 25-15)

The Bucs dropped a back-and-forth match against Carleton 3-1 to open the tournament. Sophomore outside hitter Eva Laun-Smith posted a match high 17 kills and an attack percentage of .375 in the match. Fellow sophomore outside hitter Aryssa Harris added 10 kills while committing just two attack errors in 32 attempts in the match. The pair notched double-doubles in the contest with 10 and 17 digs respectively.

Junior setter Paige Wimbrow found her hitters for 19 assists and sophomore setter Emily Stapay added ten.

Macalester 3, Beloit 2 (18-25, 16-25, 25-19, 25-20, 17-15)

The Buccaneers took Macalester down to the wire in their second match of the day Friday falling in the final set 17-15.

Laun-Smith continued her tremendous day at the day with a career high 23 kills and a .500 attack percentage in the match. Junior outside hitter Amanda Baran tallied 13 kills in the game. Defensively at the net first-year middle blocker held true to her position with one solo and four block assists.

Wimbrow and Stapay shared setting responsibilities for the second consecutive match combining for 41 assists.

In the backcourt, sophomore defensive specialist/libero Payton Carlock led the Bucs with 17 digs.

Beloit wraps up play in the Macalester Tournament with a final match against Trinity Bible College tomorrow at 10 a.m.
