Bucs Swept by Grinnell

The Beloit College softball team was swept by a now 16-5 Grinnell squad in a doubleheader played at Mercyhealth Sportscore Two in Loves Park, Illinois.

The Bucs fell to the Pioneers 9-3 in game one. Beloit put together two-run bottom of the third to highlight the game. Erica Stalo singled up the middle to lead off the inning. Bree Swanson followed with a groundball that took a high bounce off the turf sailed over the pitcher's head and came down over Stalo as she slid safely into second. A double steal moved both runners into scoring position. Ashley Lambert tagged a single to left center to plate both runs.

An inning later, Lambert followed up her key hit with a fantastic diving catch on a foul ball moving toward the Grinnell 'dugout'.

Lambert tallied two of the team's four hits in a perfect 2-for-2 performance at the plate. Alyssa Boltik suffered the loss on the mound for the Bucs.

The Buccaneers doubled up on the number of hits but the Pioneer offense exploded in game two for the 19-3 five-inning final.

The Bucs refused to fold facing the deficit fighting to plate two runs in the bottom of the fifth with two outs. Kat Grzeszkiewicz legged out a single to third base and advanced all the way to third on Lambert's single to left center. Josie Guernsey followed with a double to right field on a blooping, tailing shot that hit the turf and jolted to the fielder's left, out of their reach, to allow both runs to score. The hit was a unique version of déjà vu as Kimmy Kellum showcased her speed on an eerily similar hit that led to her standing on third earlier in the game.

Up Next: The Bucs will face Lawrence University at the Sportscore Thursday for a doubleheader beginning at 4:30. Lawrence will be the home team in the contest.
