The Beloit College softball team was swept in a home-and-away doubleheader as part of the conference 'crossover' at the Janesville Youth Sports Complex Saturday. Although not technically labeled as a crossover, the event brings all Midwest Conference teams to a central location for a day of doubleheaders.
The Buccaneers dropped the first game 8-2. Kat Grzeszkiewicz and Erica Stalo provided the highlights from the batter's box with two hits each. Stalo was a perfect 2-for-2 with a run batted in and a walk.
The Bucs struck first as Grzeszkiewicz got things going with a one-out single up the middle. She stole second and scored on Emily Stapay's single to left center. The Fighting Scots responded with single runs in each of the next two innings.
One big inning put the game out of reach as Monmouth plated five in the top of the sixth.
Miscues hampered the Bucs in the second game as the Fighting Scots had seven runs cross in the bottom of the second courtesy of four hits and four errors.
Up Next: Beloit will host Cornell for a rescheduled doubleheader Sunday beginning at noon in the team's final games of the season.
