Bucs Swept in Doubleheader at Sportscore

The Beloit College softball team lost a pair of games to UW-Platteville Thursday at the Mercyhealth Sportscore Two complex in Loves Park, Illinois. The Pioneers won the first game 11-0 in six innings and took the nightcap 10-3.

With spring feeling more like winter, the Bucs and Pioneers played on the turf at the beautiful Sportscore Two complex after the originally scheduled games Tuesday were postponed and the weather refused to warm up to acceptable playing temperature.

After recording just three hits in the first game, the Bucs made adjustments at the plate and got their bats going in game two.

UW-P posted three runs in the top of the first inning of the second game but Beloit narrowed the gap in their half.

Kat Grzeszkiewicz got things going with a single up middle. She showcased her speed with a stolen base and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Ashley Lambert put down the bunt on a squeeze play and Grzeszkiewicz slid into home safely as the catcher was unable to corral the toss from the pitcher.

Two big innings for the Pioneers extended their lead to 10-1 but the Bucs didn't fold. Alyssa Morris reached on a fielder's choice with one out in the bottom of the fourth. She moved into scoring position on a passed ball and advanced to third on a groundout. Kimmy Kellum's single to right field plated Morris for the Buccaneers' second run of the game.

Beloit kept the game going with another run in the bottom of the fifth. Bree Swanson led off the inning with a single down the left field line. Erica Stalo perfectly executed the sacrifice bunt to move Swanson into scoring position and Grzeszkiewicz singled to center to tally the RBI.

Sonya Myscofski had the defensive highlight of the night with a fantastic sliding catch heading toward the right field line in game two.

Alyssa Boltik and Kenzie Roberts took the losses on the mound for the Bucs.

Beloit's two doubleheaders up north, at St. Norbert and Lawrence, scheduled for this weekend have been postponed due to the weather. The Bucs will return to the diamond Wednesday, April 11 with a twinbill in Milwaukee against Alverno beginning at 3 p.m.
