The Beloit College softball team split a doubleheader in Rockford Thursday evening topping the Regents in the opener 4-3 in eight innings and falling in the nightcap 8-7.
Rockford struck first in game one with a single run in the bottom of the first.
Beloit got on the board with two runs in the top of the third courtesy of three Buc hits. Emily Stapay lead off the inning with a single up the middle. A one-out walk drawn by Alyssa Morris put two on for BC. Kat Grzeszkiewicz and Ashley Lambert notched back-to-back singles to plate the two runs in the inning.
The Regents put the pressure on with two more in the bottom of the fifth to make it 3-2 Rockford.
Beloit refused to fold coming up big in the top of the sixth to tie the game. Alyssa Boltik legged out a single to the shortstop with one out, stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error by Rockford's catcher in the next at bat. Dani Strejc walked to put runners on the corners and Stapay tied the game with a sacrifice fly to left field that plated Boltik.
Both teams threatened in the seventh but neither could push a run across the plate sending the game into extra innings.
In the top of the eighth, the Bucs took advantage of errors. Boltik reached on a miscue and advanced to third on a single and error in the next at bat. Stapay came up clutch once again with the game winning at bat, putting the ball in play for a groundout that allowed Boltik to score.
Ashley Lambert went 2-for-4 from the plate with an RBI and Stapay was 1-for-2 with a run scored, two runs batted in and a walk to lead Beloit.
Boltik picked up the win in the circle going the distance with a season-high 11 strikeouts in eight innings of work.
The Buccaneers outhit the Regents 13-7 in the nightcap but stranded 11 Bucs on base in the loss.
Boltik continued to have the hot bat posting a perfect 4-for-4 performance in the batter's box in game two adding two runs scored and two RBI. Brianne Swanson notched three hits in four at bats including a triple while plating two runs in the game.
Morgan Lippert suffered the loss on the mound scattering four hits while striking out one and walking seven over 3.2 innings in the circle. Â
