Senior Candace Cunningham tallied a career-high 22 points to lead the Beloit College women's basketball team to their first win of the season, a 71-53 win over Lawrence University in Flood Arena Saturday afternoon.
Cunningham was one rebound shy of a double-double in the first half. That rebound came less than four minutes into the third quarter.
Beloit posted 10 points off Viking turnovers in the first 10 minutes to head into the second quarter with a 17-11 lead.
The Bucs scored the first 11 points of the second period to widen the margin to 17, 28-11, with 6:37 to go before intermission. Lawrence cut the lead down to seven twice, the last at 2:27 on a jumper that made it 30-23. Christy Melton responded with a jumper followed by a Lauren Glaser three-pointer that sent the Bucs into the locker rooms with a 35-23 advantage.
Beloit held their double figure lead for nearly the entire second half en route to the 71-53 win.
The Bucs outrebounded the Vikings 36-26 for the game, had a 13-5 advantage in steals and 16-7 sway in assists.
Cunningham finished the game with 22 points on 10-14 from the floor and tied her career best output on the glass with 15 rebounds to lead all players. She also tallied a game-high five steals.
Glaser added 14 points and tied her season high in assists with seven. Kelly Loudon also registered double digit scoring with 10 points and added eight rebounds.
Beloit will head just across the border to Rockford Tuesday to take on the Regents. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m.
