Junior guard Lauren Glaser broke a record held for almost 30 years as the Beloit College women's basketball team topped Rockford 98-73 on the road Tuesday night.
Glaser's 17 assists put her atop the Beloit College and Midwest Conference record books for assists in a game breaking a mark held by former Buccaneer Michele Preuss (15) set in 1989. Glaser's mark is tied for tenth most assists in a game in NCAA Division III women's basketball history and is tied for the most by a player in Division III so far this season. For the season, Glaser sets up her teammates for an average of 5.8 assists per game, a mark that ranks in the top 20 in Division III this season.
In addition to Glaser's school and conference record, three Bucs notched career bests in the game. Junior guard Danielle Strejc led all players with 23 points bolstered by a 6-for-12 performance from beyond the arc, both career-highs. Her six three-pointers made ties for third in the program record book. Sophomore forward Kelly Loudon tallied a career-high 17 points and First-year forward Christy Melton reined in a game-high and career-high 11 rebounds.
The Bucs jumped out to a quick lead they would hold throughout the game. Beloit led by six, 21-15, at the end of the first. That gap widened into double figures where it stayed much of the second quarter courtesy of some efficient shooting from the Bucs. Beloit shot 65-percent (13-20) from the field and 63-percent (5-8) from long range in the quarter. Beloit went into the intermission with a 37-52 advantage.
The Buccaneers owned the third quarter outscoring Rockford for ten in the period bolstered by five more threes. The Bucs took an 82-57 lead into the final quarter. The teams were even, each scoring 16, in the final period leading to the final, 98-73.
The Bucs' 98 points is the most scored in a game since January of 2015 and is the most points scored by a team in the MWC so far this season. Beloit's 14 three-pointers ranks second in the program record book and ties for the most in the league while their 35 attempts ranks second. Beloit shot 48-percent (39-81) from the floor and 40-percent (14-35) from long range in the contest.
The Buccaneers will have a few weeks off before heading to Nashville, Tennessee for the Music City Classic where they will meet regional foes Chicago and Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Beloit is slated to play the Maroons December 29 followed by a December 30 matchup with the Blugolds.
