The Beloit College women's basketball team fell to Illinois College 63-52 on the road Saturday afternoon.
The Buccaneers shot 31% (21-67) from the floor and went to the free throw line just twice in the game. The Lady Blues shot 37% (23-62) from the field but made good on 11 of their 14 opportunities from the charity stripe.Â
Beloit took an early lead as
Candace Cunningham and
Kelly Loudon dropped in the first two buckets of the game. Illinois responded with back-to-back field goals to knot the score 4-4 when
Shelby Kline nailed a three-pointer to make it 7-4 Beloit with 6:40 on the clock in the first quarter.Â
From that point, the Lady Blues went on a 15-0 run that lasted four minutes claiming a 19-7 advantage. IC led 21-11 at the end of the first.Â
The Bucs outscored Illinois 12-11 in the second quarter to take a 32-23 deficit into the half.Â
Beloit trailed by as much as 20 late in the second half before
Lauren Glaser sparked a 9-0 Buccaneer spurt to close out the game. Kline knocked down two threes in the final three minutes.Â
Kline went 4-9 from three-point range en route to a 17-point outing. She added seven rebounds and three assists.
Kelly Loudon added 12 points and Cunningham hauled in a game-high 14 boards.Â
The Bucs return to Flood Arena to host Grinnell College January 30. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
