Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Bucs Come Back to Top Ripon on Senior Day

The Beloit College women's soccer team came back from a two-goal deficit to defeat Ripon College 3-2 on senior day in Beloit Saturday. The Buccaneers' three seniors, Rachel Cook, Katie LaCost and Raine Loewen-Thomas, were recognized prior to the contest.

The Red Hawks dominated the first half outshooting the Buccaneers 15-2 and registering goals in the 26th and 44th minute to take a 2-0 lead into the intermission.

With less than 20 minutes to go in the game, the Bucs needed a spark and they got just that from Sydney Hukin. A shot from teammate Kayla Erickson was bobbled by the Red Hawk keeper in the 71st minute. As the ball came off the keeper, Hukin was ready and capitalized on the misplay finding the lower right corner of the net off the rebound to cut the deficit to 2-1.

Hukin continued to put pressure on the back line getting in behind the defense just over 10 minutes later. She was fouled by the last remaining defender just outside the box leading to a red card on Ripon and a free kick for Beloit. Makenna Downing took the free kick and hit pay dirt to knot the game 2-2 in the 84th minute.

With energy and momentum in full swing for the Bucs fueled by a great crowd on family day, Beloit's first-year forward, Hukin, gave the fans even more to celebrate in the 87th minute. A corner kick for the Bucs led to a scramble in front of the net. The ball once again found Hukin who knocked it in beating the keeper near post to put the Bucs up 3-2.

Beloit's defense held for the final two minutes to seal the win.

The Bucs were outshot but were more efficient scoring three times on six shots on goal. Hukin found the back of the net on both of her shots on target in the game. Loewen-Thomas, Mikaila Davis and Downing each tallied a shot on goal in the contest.

Audrey Ketterer was fantastic in goal for Beloit recording eight saves in the complete game in net.

Beloit takes a break from Midwest Conference action Wednesday playing host to UW-Platteville at 4 p.m. before hosting St. Norbert College in the Bucs' final game of the 2019 season Saturday at 1 p.m.
