The Beloit College women's basketball team used a stellar first quarter en route to a 56-43 victory over Rockford University Tuesday evening in Flood Arena. The Buccaneers outscored the Regents 21-5 in the first quarter to set up the win.
Beloit's defense held the Regents to just 20-percent (2-10) shooting from the floor while the offense knocked down 57-percent (8-14) of their opportunities including 38-percent (3-8) from long range. The Bucs also capitalized in transition outscoring Rockford 16-2 in fastbreak points.
The contest was all Beloit from the opening tip as the Bucs rattled off the first 12 points of the game. They continued to build the lead to 21-5 at the end of the first quarter bolstered by three consecutive layups from T'aira Boyance to wrap up the period. The first quarter proved to be the difference in the game as Rockford outscored Beloit 38-35 through the final three quarters.
Dani Strejc led the Bucs with 16 points bolstered by four three-pointers in the game. She added three assists and two steals.
Kelly Loudon hauled in a team-high eight rebounds and added 14 points in the game.
Lauren Glaser joined her teammates in double figures with 10 points adding game-highs in assists (5) and steals (6).
Up Next: Beloit will head on the road to Indiana to take on Manchester University Saturday, November 30. Tipoff is slated for 1 p.m.
