The Beloit College women's basketball team fell to Manchester University 81-54 on the road Saturday afternoon. Two big quarters for the Spartans put the game out of reach for the Buccaneers.
The Bucs faced just a three-point deficit after the first quarter but were outscored 21-7 in the second and 26-10 in the third. Beloit turned the tables in the fourth outscoring Manchester 22-16 but the gap was too great.
Beloit shot 41-percent from the floor, 33-percent from beyond the arc and 60-percent from the free throw line. The Spartans had the hot hands hitting 50-percent of their field goals and three-pointers and 86-percent of their opportunities at the free throw line. Turnovers were costly as Manchester outscored Beloit 26-11 in points off giveaways.and 21-2 on fastbreak points.
Kelly Loudon led all players with 24 points going 8-16 from the floor, 4-8 from three-point range and 4-6 from the charity stripe in the game. She added a game-high nine rebounds to lead all players on the glass and recorded three assists in the contest.
Christy Melton was 4-7 from the field for 12 points adding eight boards.
The Bucs return to the hardwood to host Ripon College Wednesday, December 4 in the Midwest Conference opener. Tipoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. following the men's game.
