Buc Women Seal Win from the Free Throw Line

The Beloit College women's basketball team enjoyed a 16-9 advantage in points from the free throw line in a 70-61 win over North Central University (Minn.) Wednesday evening.

Lauren Glaser led the way sealing the game late from the charity stripe with the Buccaneers' final eight points of the contest, all from the line. She ended up 10-12 from the stripe for a game-high 24 points.

The game was a rollercoaster as Beloit jumped out of gates to a 23-9 lead after the first 10 minutes. The Rams came flying back into the contest shooting 63-percent in the second quarter and outscoring the Bucs 25-9 to take a 34-32 lead into the break.

On the other side of the intermission, the teams were posted a dead even third quarter each squad scoring 18 in the period setting up the final ten minutes. T'Aira Boyance opened the scoring in the fourth with a layup nearly two minutes in to knot the game 52-52. Back-to-back layups for NCU gave the Rams a four-point advantage, 56-52 with 6:19 to go.

Glaser drew her first foul of the period and knocked down both shots from the stripe and then capitalized on a Ram turnover with a triple to reclaim the lead for Beloit, 57-56. Christy Melton was fouled during the rebound on the defensive end and dropped in one of two from the line before the teams traded two-pointers to make it 60-58 with less than four minutes remaining.

Over a minute ticked off the clock before the score changed. Kelly Loudon drew a foul after hauling in an offensive rebound and knocked down both free opportunities to make it 62-58 with just under 2:30 left. From that point, Glaser took over, hit 8-10 from the free throw line and the rest is history.

Glaser added a team-high four assists to her 24 points. Loudon notched a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Melton hauled in a game-high 14 boards in the contest and added two assists, two steals and two blocks.

Up Next: The Bucs take an 11-day break from game action with their next time hitting the hardwood against an opponent Sunday, December 29 at Elmhurst College. Tipoff is slated for 2 p.m.
