Babb Notches Career-High 30 Points in Bucs' Loss to Grinnell

Junior guard Dan Babb had the hot hand Wednesday night dropping a career-high 30 points in Beloit's 121-104 loss to Grinnell College. Babb was 11-15 from the floor and 7-10 from the free throw line in the Buccaneers' home finale.

The Bucs were more efficient but could not match the long range threat of the Pioneers in the fast-paced affair. Beloit shot 55-percent (42-76) from the floor but were just 2-4 from beyond the arc in the contest. Grinnell was 46-percent (42-91) from the field and hit 18-53 from three-point range in the game. The teams were nearly even from the charity stripe with the Pioneers hitting 19 and Beloit 18 of each team's 29 attempts.

Beloit matched pace early with the well-known run-and-gun style of play from the Pioneers capitalizing on quick transition buckets to keep the game close. Grinnell opened up a five point advantage a number of times in the first half but a 6-0 Bucs' spurt in less than a minute saw the lead back on Beloit's side 19-18 with 14:01 to play in the first 20 minutes. The margin remained under three points for the next four minutes when the Pioneers started to heat up from long range. An old fashioned three-point play followed by a jumper and back-to-back threes and another two-pointer before Beloit countered on their offensive end gave the Pioneers a 40-26 lead with 8:44 on the scoreboard.

The lead would remain in double figures the rest of the way but the Buc men continued to put pressure on the Pioneer defense with quick transitions up the floor resulting in some close shots at the rim. Beloit outscored Grinnell 22-4 on fast break chances in the game.

In addition to Babb's 30, Matthew Miller was 10-16 from the floor with 21 points. Andrew Walters and Tristan Shoup each tallied double-doubles in the game. Walters nearly registered a triple double with 17 points, 13 rebounds and nine assists while Shoup added 12 points and 13 boards.

The Bucs will wrap up the 2018-19 season on the road visiting Cornell College Saturday. Tipoff is slated for 3 p.m.
