The Beloit College women's lacrosse team exploded for eleven goals in the second half to register a 16-14 comeback win over Clarke University Wednesday afternoon in Iowa.
The Buccaneers trailed the Pride 7-5 after the first half but turned things around at the intermission to more than double that offensive output in the second half of play.
Clarke opened the scoring just over a minute into the second but less than 30 seconds later Nicole Dolcimascolo found Fiona Milchman for the goal to make it 8-6. The Pride responded in kind but Olivia Nasatir found the back of the net as the Bucs were a player down to cut the lead back down to two, 9-7 with 22:24 on the clock.
After another Pride goal, Milchman took over the offense finding beating the Pride keeper with three consecutive goals in less than a minute to tie the game 10-10. Dolcimascolo and Kieran Rodning registered assists during the spurt.
Clarke regained the lead 11-10 at the 16:52 but the Bucs had the answer as Rodning and Dolcimascolo tallied goals 22 seconds apart to reclaim the Beloit advantage 12-11. The Pride tied it up 12-12 with just under 15 minutes to play when Beloit rattled off four in a row including two goals apiece from Dolcimascolo and Nasatir to give the Bucs a 16-12 lead with 9:25 on the clock.
A break in the offense had both teams scoreless until the Pride found the back of the net at the 2:21 mark. Clarke posted the final score of the game with less than a minute to play but Beloit got the win.
The Bucs peppered the Pride goalie with a high shot on goal efficiency, 31 of the teams 38 shots were on goal in the contest. Rodning led Beloit with seven points on three goals and four assists. Nasatir posted a team-high five goals followed by Dolcimascolo and Milchman's four each.
Beloit is 2-2 on the season and will head to the Windy City to face Concordia Chicago Saturday March 16. Game time is slated for 3 p.m.
