Andrei Prikhodko,
Mark Gannon and
Michael Boyland combined for 15 goals to power Beloit College to a big Midwest Lacrosse Conference win over the University of Northwestern-St. Paul 15-12 Saturday at Strong Stadium.
The back-and-forth affair was as exciting to watch as the final score would suggest. Gannon sparked the Buccaneer offense with the first goal of the contest just over a minute into the game beating the Eagle keeper on an unassisted score. UNW responded with a goal of their own at the 12:02 mark before Gannon found Prikhodko for his first goal of the game to reclaim the Bucs' lead. Gannon made it 3-1 with an amazing cut and dive toward the front of the crease finding the top left corner of the goal. Boyland made good on a Gannon pass with 6:35 left in the first quarter before UNW rattled off four in a row going into the second period.
Prikhodko halted the run with 13:12 on the clock. Boyland struck twice more in the second to knot the game 7-7 at the 6:02 mark but the Eagles registered two more goals to make it 9-7 at the intermission.
On the other side of the break, the offenses were slow-going to start until Prikhodko scored twice in a 30-second span to tie the game 9-9. UNW narrowed the gap to one but the Bucs responded with a flurry. Gannon found the back of the net twice then Boyland recorded a buzzer-beater goal just beating the keeper as the horn at the end of the third quarter sounded to make it 12-10.
Prikhodko struck twice and Gannon notched his fifth goal of the game to close out the scoring and seal the game for the Bucs in the fourth.
Prikhodko, Gannon and Boyland posted six assists in addition to the 15 goals for a total of 21 points in the game.
Keeler Tardiff and
Luke Thomson were active on loose ball situations each tallying eight in the game.
David Kunczynski was solid in goal registering 12 saves.
