Bucs Swept by Illinois College in Janesville

The Beloit College softball team fell to Illinois College in a pair of games at the Janesville Youth Sports Complex Friday night. The doubleheader was originally scheduled for earlier this season and then for Sunday with inclement weather causing the change on both occasions. The Lady Blues took the first game 6-1 and the nightcap 6-3.

Illinois College got on the board in the top of the first and added another run in the top of the second. The Bucs cut the lead in half in the bottom of the second. Kaitlynn Taft led off the frame with a double to right center. Two outs later, Dani Strejc came up with a bit single to left field and a miscue in the outfield allowed Taft to come around to score.

The Lady Blues added one more in the fifth and put the game out of reach in the seventh with three more.

The Buccaneers posted four hits in the game with four differing Bucs tallying a hit. Madi Christine added two walks and Taft had the lone run scored.

Alyssa Boltik suffered the loss on the mound striking out four in the complete game in the circle.

The Bucs pushed two runs across in the bottom of the seventh but were unable to mount the comeback.

Illinois College struck first with a single run in the top of the second. Beloit tallied the equalizer in the bottom of the fourth. Callie Dutton led off the frame with an infield single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Alyssa Morris. Maty Nowakowski followed with a double down the left field line that plated Dutton and knotted the game 1-1.

The Lady Blues responded with three runs in the top of the fifth and added one in each the top of the sixth and seventh. The Bucs put the pressure on as Christine doubled to right center to open the bottom of the seventh. With one out, Emily Stapay crushed a ball to right field that sailed over the right field wall for two-run blast.

Nowakowski and Stapay each registered two hits in the game with the pair combining for three RBI.

Morris suffered the loss in four innings of work while Boltik came in for the final three innings of relief.
