Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Buc Men Fall in Season Opener

The Buccaneer men's soccer team dropped their season opener at Illinois Tech Friday night 7-0.

The Scarlet Hawks got on the board early with a goal in the fifth minute. A corner kick taken by Deji Agunbiade gave Beloit the chance at the equalizer by Patrick Casola's shot caromed off the post.

IIT came back with a goal off a corner and another off a deflection to take a 3-0 lead in the 20th minute. Solvi Gunderson saw an opening in the 25th minute but his shot was saved by the Hawks' keeper. Illinois Tech added two more over the next 15 minutes but the Bucs had the best chance at the end of the half. Avery Durkee took a corner and registered a shot on goal that was thwarted by the keeper just over a minute before the break.

Less than a minute into the second, Conor Waldron had a scoring opportunity turned away by the keeper. A shot by Agunbiade was also saved and Grady Spencer's scoring chance was blocked by a defender. Another deflection saw the ball find the back of the net for IIT in the 64th minute and less than four minutes later the Hawks made it 7-0 off a penalty kick.

Beloit continued to pressure with Gunderson taking a shot at the goal but missing wide left and Desire Mukucha getting in on the offensive action with a shot on goal that was saved.

Clark Burch-Woodard went the distance in goal recording four saves in the contest.

The Bucs will be back in action Sunday at Wisconsin Lutheran. That contest is slated for a 1 p.m. kickoff. Beloit's home opener is scheduled for Friday, September 6 against Maranatha Baptist at 4:30 p.m.
