Landoch Nets Goal in Bucs' Loss

The Beloit College men's soccer team was unable to overcome a three-goal deficit after halftime in a a 5-1 loss at Wisconsin Lutheran College Sunday afternoon. 

The first offensive opportunities of the game came on Buccaneers' end with Deji Agunbiade taking a corner kick in the fifth minute and a Drew Landoch shot in the tenth minute that was blocked by a defender. The momentum swung in a big way just 20 seconds after Landoch's shot when Wisconsin Lutheran went the length of the field and found the back of the net to take a 1-0 lead. Less than 30 seconds later, Warriors chipped a ball over the keeper for a 2-0 advantage.

The Bucs continued to pressure offensively with three Bucs tallying shots including two that were saved by the WLC keeper over the next 20 minutes but none found the back of the net. WLC extended their lead to 3-0 in the 36th minute on a header off a free kick.  

Heading into the second half, Landoch cut the margin to 3-1 with a goal in the first minue of thee second half. Finding some space inside the box, Landoch's shot deflected off a defender and found the bottom left corner of the net for Beloit's first goal. 

A penalty kick goal for WLC in the 58th minute made it 4-1. The Bucs had their own opportunity at a penalty kick but the shot was thwarted by the keeper in the 65th minute. The Warriors capped the scoring making it 5-1 with a goal in the 80th minute. 

Each team tallied six shots on goal in the game. The Bucs committed fewer fouls but WLC drew more corners in the contest. Clark Burch-Woodard made one save in goal for the Bucs in the game. 

Beloit has one more road game scheduled before their home opener on Friday, September 6. The Bucs will head to Madison to face the Edgewood College Eagles Wednesday, September 4 at 7 p.m.
