The Beloit College men's soccer team battled to a double overtime 1-1 tie at Edgewood College in Madison Wednesday night.
After a scoreless first half, the Eagles broke the stalemate with a goal in the 52nd minute. The Bucs trailed for just 11 minutes before
Andrew Marchesi tallied the equalizer in the 63rd minute.
Both teams had a number of opportunities through the rest of regulation but none beat the keeper. In the 88th minute, an Eagle player was booked with a red card allowing the Bucs a man advantage heading into the overtime.
The first five minutes of overtime saw little offensive action but the final five minutes of the first set of extra time was a flurry of action. Beloit keeper
Luis Rodriguez made a save early in the 96th minute. On the other end,
Conor Waldron got a good look but his shot was turned away by the Eagle keeper. With just seconds remaining, Edgewood had another opportunity but Rodriguez came up with a big save.
The Buccaneers dominated the offensive opportunities in the second overtime period. Marchesi had a fantastic look from the top of the box but Edgewood's keeper was able to get his hands on the bending ball in. Deji Agunbiade was narrowly thwarted by the Eagles' keeper as he came out and made a sliding tackle on Agunbiade. The ball deflected back and Waldron had chance in the final 20 seconds but the keeper had returned to his position just in time for the save.
Clark Burch-Woodard opened the game in goal for the Bucs posting four saves in 45 minutes in net. Rodriguez took over for the final 65 minutes registering four saves.
