Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Buc Men Edged by Scots

A late change in venue had the Buccaneer men's team heading to Sportscore Two to face Monmouth College Sunday. As the field deteriorated from the rain during the women's game, the teams decided to take their contest to the indoor turf complex in Loves Park, Illinois. The Scots prevailed in the fast-paced affair topping Beloit 2-1.

After a scoreless first half, Monmouth opened to scoring less than two minutes into the second. A flurry in front of the net led to the Scots goal in the 47th minute.

Less than ten minutes later, Beloit tallied the equalizer. A fantastic ball up the middle from Deji Agunbiade found the feet of Andrew Marchesi. Settling the ball, Marchesi took on two defenders toward the right side of the box, stopped on a dime and cut the ball back losing both Scots and setting on a one-on-one with the goalie. The sophomore set and drove the ball toward the far post, bending it away from the keeper and into the bottom corner of the net to make it 1-1 in the 57th minute.

Beloit's advantage held for just over six minutes. Luis Rodriguez came off his line to punch out a corner served into the box but Monmouth's Lucas Sondgeroth was able to thwart the clear attempt at the top of the box with a shot back on target to give the Scots the 2-1 lead.

Beloit had a number of opportunities the rest of the way but were turned away each time by Monmouth's defense.

Rodriguez made six saves in the complete game in goal for the Bucs.

Beloit will head to Iowa to take on Grinnell Saturday, October 5. The game is slated for a 1:30 p.m. start following the women's game.
